Ted Cruz leads early Texas Senate poll over Beto O’Rourke

As the 2018 election season approaches, traditionally red Texas will be holding its upcoming primaries on March 8th. However, after the surprise victory for Doug Jones in Alabama, many Democrats believe the election in November will be more competitive than we have seen in a long time. Texas has not had a Democratic Senator in 29 years, but Ted Cruz’s low approval numbers coupled with O’Rourke’s candidacy amidst a Trump Presidency is expected to energize a Texas demographic that has seen 37% growth in Democratic voters since 2004.

O’Rourke, 45, hails from Texas, and has served as U.S. Representative for the 16th congressional district in El Paso since 2013. In terms of policy, O’Rourke is known for his support of cannabis legalization and his introduction of the Foster Children Opportunity Act which would require states to provide financial support and a path to citizenship for immigrant children. O’Rourke’s 2018 bid against Ted Cruz implies that the Castro twins, Joaquin and Julian, may seek to unseat John Cornyn and possibly take a shot at the White House in 2020.

O’Rourke will look to make gains on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 showing, where she lost to Donald Trump by 9 points but was able to flip some areas in southern Texas.  We would expect Ted Cruz to do better in a lower turnout midterm election, but he is polling below Cornyn’s 2014 16-point win.

CB Polling conducted an online Google Consumer Survey of Texas residents from December 14th to December 16th, 2017. Among those surveyed, 494 declared their intention to vote, 57% of respondents indicated they would vote for Ted Cruz (R), while 43% indicated that would vote for Beto O’Rourke (D). The margin of error is 4.4%.

Ted Cruz, who is no stranger to controversy, will have to defeat former Reagan staffer and current VP of LIFE Outreach International, Bruce Jacboson, in the primary leading up to the November midterms. After failing in his presidential bid and aligning himself with President Trump, early polling suggests Cruz will still be able to defend his turf. However, this will be one of the most watched races in the upcoming cycle.

This sounds a bit dodgy to me. Yeah, it’s Texas, so Cruz is probably ahead, perhaps by a lot, but I’m shocked it’s by 14 points. That seems a little far-fetched.

      What were you expecting?

    • Jacob St.Clair

Yeah what would you think we don’t to become a sanctuary state or make it basically legal to intentionally give people std’s by not telling people about it before donating blood or before having sex like commiefornia did instead of reducing the sentence to six months they should have increased it to death sentence becuase by intentionally not telling anyone before having sex or donating blood becuase they are basically sentencing whoever they have sex with or whoever gets their blood to a agonizing death

    • Rick McCallister

The sitting President’s party loses seats during midterms. It’s only been disproven once, in the wake of 9/11.

Amazing how the press is actively trying to hype the “surprising Democratic victory” in Alabama as a harbinger for other Democratic victories in Republican strongholds. Sounds like they are dreaming the big lie.

    • Jimothy Jones

Sounds like someone has their head in the sand and considers any fact that does not support their bias as fake.

Having been to Texas for business a few times I feel comfortable saying there are a lot of intelligent people living there, and it’s those people I beg to not send Cruz back to DC. He uses the bible as a weapon something it was never meant to be. He dictates to others what is best for them and then explains himself by being condescending as if to say, “I know better than you poor stupid fool.” He is extremely uncaring, but a good showman so he puts on the impression of being there for you, until you question or contradict him. His underhanded tricks in Iowa showed a true color, sending out mailings telling people they were in violation of Voting Laws to pull more republicans to the booth. I am in favor of making sure everyone has a voice, but not by lying to them. Come on Texas send us someone the whole country and trust, and that’s not Cruz.

    • Patrick Turner

I don’t buy your argument and I’ve lived in Texas for over 30+ years. Maybe they believe all that in California.

    • Jacob St.Clair

All of you democrats are exactly the same way you say cruz is you democrats don’t realy care about anyone else unless they believe in the same things as you or unless they can somehow help push you agenda and start going against you’re agenda you ruin their lives
